It was a cool dark night…
as he walked down the lonely road to Salem… Malice and rumors seemed to whisper in the wind.
He hated going back-it felt like defeat. He hated the thought of being an apprentice again for his brother. Spending a lifetime baking bread like an indentured servant –where was the adventure in that? Besides his brother was a merciless boss-and old. He was almost 30!
But finding adventure wasn’t so easy, so here he was trudging towards the town made famous (or infamous) by the Salem Witch Trials where so many were condemned by clergy to death by fire. The thought sent chills down his spine –good thing the witch trials were over (or were they?)
In a town near by, another fire sparked and began to spread.
And so begins Stephens’s journey to his end.
